A chara, - That the downgrading of Old Irish at UCD is a cause of dismay has been made clear repeatedly in your pages. Such a move by the State's largest university, promoting itself as a centre for excellence in Irish studies, is indeed astounding.
What has not been mentioned, yet, however, is that not a single university in the State provides a postgraduate Old Irish course taught through Irish. As an Irish-speaking student of Old and Middle Irish, I am personally dismayed and astounded that this is the case. - Is mise,
