Sir, – Further to your editorial "Downsizing apartments" (July 30th), the proposal being considered by Dublin County Council to allow a reduction in apartment sizes tells us one thing – that all who back this proposal already have their own homes.
Why not go the whole hog and instruct young families to place a coathanger down the back of their child’s shirt and hang them up in the wardrobe for the night? – Yours, etc,
EUGENE TANNAM,
Firhouse,
Dublin 24.
Sir, – Recent proposals amount to a future of fewer regulatory housing standards based on the claim that the housing crisis cannot be solved unless we return to the shoddiness of the past. The vested interests in the pursuit of quick profit at the expense of proper housing standards are winning out again. It is time to shout stop. – Yours, etc,
BRENDAN BUTLER,
Malahide,
Co Dublin.
