Sir, - On the same day as you reported Dr Connell's views on contraception and sexual morality, Fr Michael Fitzgerald tells us, via your Letters page, that "the job of the Catholic Church is to teach the word of God - and this especially in regard to chastity."
May I ask why the Catholic Church is so obsessed with sex, and obsessed so negatively? Could there be a connection between this obsession and the constant reports of the vilest sexual abuses practised by members of the clergy on innocent children? I personally prefer the more tolerant and compassionate teachings of the Buddha, but isn't there something in the Bible about removing the beam from your own eye before you criticise the mote in another's? - Yours, etc., Robert O'Mahoney,
North Great George's Street, Dublin 1.
