Madam, – Strictly speaking, Germany did not have an embassy in Dublin during the second World War; it was a legation and Doctor Hempel was the minister (February 28th).

Germany had wanted to upgrade the legation to embassy level but as this would have meant that any German ambassador would have been accredited to King George VI the Irish government declined the request. – Yours, etc,
