Dr Seuss and the banking inquiry

Sir, – On reading Miriam Lord's piece "Amateur dramatics let down by bad script" (July 24th), I found the headline to be somewhat undeserved. The dramatics did seem amateur, I concede, but the script was not so much "bad", as unrefined.

It had all the potential to take the form of a great Dr Seuss-esque poem along the lines of Green Eggs and Ham, with a seemingly irrelevant question posed again and again in slightly different ways by Senator Marc MacSharry. Except in this case "Do you like green eggs and ham?" would be replaced by "Did you go by car or plane?"

“Did you go by car or plane?”

“I did not go by car or plane.”

“I find your questions all in vain.”

“Do you like to fly or park?”

“I do not like to fly or park.”

“I do not like your questions, Marc.”

“I did not go by car or plane.”

“I find your question all in vain.”

“Did you go by car or plane?”

I feel we could make a habit of this. – Yours, etc,
