Sir, - When hunting for salmon, intelligent people look in rivers. When hunting for rabbits, it is traditional to lay snares on their runs near the burrows.
When hunting for inebriated car drivers it would seem the most intelligent way to locate the source of the species would be where the two main ingredients (car-drivers and alcohol) come into contact. This is clearly the parking areas outside the pubs. I have yet to see these drink-driver "nests" being properly monitored or targetted during crackdowns.
No doubt the Vintners Association et al would be annoyed that their customers should be subjected to even a random checkpoint (or should that be checkpint) but the rest of us could go about that bit easier in our minds at night. - Yours, etc.
