Madam, - Living as I do facing the front door of one of Dublin's more popular hostelries I get a chance to observe drinkers, having consumed more than the limit allows, making the responsible decision to leave their cars and find other means to return home.

Many mornings I also have the opportunity to watch some of those cars being clamped at a relatively early hour.

Does this make any sense in light of the public interest to keep death off the roads? - Yours, etc.,
