DRINKING IN PUBLIC

TERRY MURPHY,

TERRY MURPHY,

Sir, - If Joe Humphreys lived in Skerries, he might well take a different view of the imminent ban on drinking in public places (An Irishman's Diary, December 17th). Skerries Town Park, in particular, suffers dreadfully from this plague, with its consequent litter and vandalism.

Mind you, if gardaí show the same lack of enthusiasm for enforcing the new law that they presently show for enforcing the existing laws governing the sale of alcohol to minors, Joe Humphreys can rest assured that he will always be able to enjoy a bottle of wine with his picnic if he comes to Skerries. - Yours, etc.,

TERRY MURPHY,
