DONAL FELLOWS,
Sir, - Some six months ago the Government set up a "high level" committee to "urgently consider" whether or not using hand-held mobile phones in cars should be made illegal. Research in Germany had already shown that drivers using hand-held phones had a six times greater chance of making errors. These findings had been corroborated by additional research in the US.
Given the urgency with which they were asked to consider the issue, could the committee, or the Minister, now tell us what the findings are? In any organisation, even a "Celtic Tiger" government, six months is pressing the outer fringes of urgency. - Yours, etc.,
DONAL FELLOWS,
