Sir, - There is no doubt that moronic traffic light sequencing contributes enormously to Dublin's traffic problems. But the "arrogance will get you everywhere" attitude of drivers is what makes driving in Dublin a nightmare.
I drive occasionally in Belfast and even though I am not well acquainted with the geography of that city, I do not have major difficulty. In Dublin you always seem to have a large 00D or 01D registration on your tail with a young - or even not so young - driver giving the impression that it is an insult to his virility to have you in front of him. He is not happy until he passes you either on the inside or outside.
Perhaps it only happens to me because I drive a car with a country registration. The odd motorbike driver actually spits when he is whizzing past. I suppose they look on me as a "culchie". - Yours, etc.,
A. Leavy, Shielmartin Drive, Sutton, Dublin 13.
