Sir, - Rule 28 of the Constitution, Laws and Ordinances of the Loyal Orange Institution of Ireland states: "In grateful acknowledgement of those who under Almighty God gave us Civil and Religious Liberty members shall keep, by religious service or ceremony, the anniversaries of the Battle of the Boyne (12th July) and the Battle of the Somme (1st July). They may keep the anniversaries of the Protestant Reformation (last Sunday in October); the timely arrival for our deliverance of King William III (4th November), and the failure of the Popish inspired gunpowder Plot (5th November).
"The event must be commemorated with strict observance of the Law of the land, and nothing. must be done to cause offence. Suspension or expulsion will be the punishment for conduct which would bring discredit on a member, or through him on the institution."
It is evident that many members of the Orange Order broke Rule 28 of the general laws at Drumcree in 1995 and 1996. - Yours, etc.,
