DUBLIN AND MONAGHAN BOMBINGS

TIMOTHY J. RYAN,

TIMOTHY J. RYAN,

Sir, - I refer you to the recent article in your paper under the heading "Omagh Pledge by Ahern after guilty verdict in bombing Trial", which says in the opening paragraph: "The Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, last night reiterated the Government's position that 'no effort' would be spared to bring to justice all those responsible for the Omagh bombings".

This, of course, is totally correct. However, as a Dubliner like the Taoiseach, I feel he should be more concerned finally to obtain information as to who carried out the bombings in Dublin and Monaghan as long ago as 1974.

Judge Henry Barron has not received the expected co-operation, his professional efforts being fobbed off by a plethora of insubstantial and hardly credible explanations as to why the essential information available to the British Government over all these years has not been made available to him.

The unbelievable explanation is the "amount of research" required, nearly 28 years later.

I would expect the Taoiseach should make this matter his "ultimate priority". So far he has failed. - Yours, etc.,

TIMOTHY J. RYAN, Eustace Street, Dublin 2.
