Sir, - I notice that the Dublin Port Company has placed two fluorescent flags in the bay marking the extremities of the proposed 52-acre infill. The DPC needs to make a more courageous effort to clearly indicate to the public the monstrous scale of their proposal. Perhaps they could cordon off the area to allow people to visualise losing another great chunk of the bay to accommodate more Port Company detritus? Does the DPC intend to alert the public at all regarding the function of the new pink flags?
Dublin Bay Watch believes that it would be irresponsible to sacrifice such a vital amenity when there are clearly alternatives as yet unexplored. With the benefits of a thriving economy comes an even greater responsibility to protect what amenities there are to serve the common good. In the case of Dublin bay, it is right to call a halt to the creeping expansion of the Port Company into the bay and to preserve what's left of this great amenity for the ordinary people of the city. - Yours, etc.,
Darina Shouldice, Secretary, Dublin Bay Watch, Clontarf Road, Dublin 3.
