SIOBHAN TREACY,
Madam, - Perhaps Mr Peter Collins (November 1st) would consider taking up running. This would make him fitter, healthier and more tolerant - and he should then be in a position to make his journey from Rathfarnham to Ranelagh, on foot, in his "normal" time of 15 minutes. The population of the greater Dublin area would also be spared the harmful emissions caused by his motoring! - Yours, etc.,
SIOBHAN TREACY, Abington, Murroe,Co Limerick.

Madam, - My wife and I came to Dublin for four days so that she could run in the Dublin Marathon. We would like to say how much we enjoyed our visit. Dublin is a wonderful place, full of friendly people. We met and chatted with some of the dedicated team of marathon organisers and volunteers who do a marvellous job for your city.
We also met other competitors and visitors from other parts of the world who were equally impressed by your city and the marathon. Your Dublin Marathon is an event to be proud of and should be encouraged to grow so it can compete in stature with the London Marathon and others around the world.
It was my wife Gill's first marathon. She completed it in 3 hours 40 minutes. We will be back next year for another visit - as I am sure will many of the other competitors and supporters.
We would like to extend our thanks to the many volunteers who helped make the event such a success. - Yours, etc.,
JOHN STRIPP, Staffordshire, England.
