Sir, - I am sick of hearing those condemning the introduction of an LRT system for the Dublin area and selfishly looking after their own interests. One of the laughable alternatives suggested so far is the construction of 20 bus corridors instead. These people have clearly never used the bus as a means of transport because if they did they would know how futile a suggestion that is. Public transport in Dublin is notoriously inadequate.

Let me give a brief description of the options available to the non car owner in Dublin. (1) Dublin Bus: unlike an aeroplane where you don't seem to be moving very fast but actually are, on Dublin Bus the illusion is shattered - you really aren't moving. Enjoy the game of leapfrog with other buses on the same route that insist on coming in twos and threes at long intervals.

(2) Cycling: Experience the excitement of navigating between the buses and cars whilst getting high on carbon monoxide. Each evening gather your family around the fire and relay your series of narrow escapes which occurred that day!

As a city of well over one million people accounting for one third of the population of the country, we warrant a comprehensive public transport system. - Yours, etc.,
