DUBLIN'S HANDEL CONNECTION

Sir, - As one of the 250 choristers from 10 different countries whotook part in the recent "Happy Birthday Handel" performance of Messiahin Halle, Germany, I read Liam McAuley's feature on the event (Weekend,March 2nd) with great interest and enjoyment.

I would like to endorse his suggestion that Dublin should explorethe possibility of twinning with Halle. What could be more appropriatethan an official cultural link between the birthplace of Handel and thecity where his greatest masterpiece was first performed?

Certainly, the Irish participants in Halle were left in no doubt bysingers from other countries - especially Japan - that Dublin'sassociation with Messiah is valued and envied throughout the world.

I am disappointed, though hardly surprised, that no one from DublinCorporation has seen fit to respond to the twinning suggestion. Perhapsthis is an area where Ms Síle de Valera and The Irish Times could mendfences and make common cause. Action as well as good PR? - Yours, etc.,
