Sir - How timely of Paul Kenny (April 11th) to bring up the subject of a fitting memorial to Handel and his Dublin connection before this Government leaves office.

This is, after all, the same Government which showed such exquisite taste in funding a Millennium production called Messiah XXI to the tune of almost €1 million.

May I suggest that when the memorial is finally erected (after due consultation with Ms Síle de Valera and/or Walt Disney Productions), Gladys Knight be asked to unveil it? Perhaps Frank McNamara might improve the score of Messiah even more and write a version to be performed at the unveiling? - Yours, etc.,
