Madam, - It is wonderful to see a new project for Dublin which is elegant and practical in design. I refer to the proposed pedestrian bridge over the Liffey, linking City Quay with Custom House Quay, which is planned to be completed in 2004.
The internal competition for this design was won by Brian O'Halloran and Associates with Cyril O'Neill as the architect in charge and the structural engineers, O'Connor Sutton Cronin with Paul Healy in charge.
This excellent proposal is in vivid contrast with the lamppost in O'Connell Street, which will give a smile to Americans and others whose high buildings are between twice and three times its height.
This graceful pedestrian bridge, near the Mariners' Memorial on City Quay, will be something of which Dublin can be proud. - Yours, etc.,
