Madam, - Barry Kenny of Iarnród Éireann (May 30th), in his response to Frank McDonald's article of May 26th regarding Dublin's proposed rail network, entirely misses the point.

The integration gaps outlined in the article stem not from international best practice but rather from planning oversights. Long walks between services can be avoided simply by planned integration of stations and stops across the Luas, Metro and railway networks.

The Department of Transport now has an opportunity to remedy some of the gaps highlighted, as in most cases these projects are only at planning stages. Not to do so now could lead to further expense in the longer term. - Is mise,
