CONOR O'CONNELL,
Sir, - The news that the Government has shelved plans to decentralise Government Departments ("Decentralisation plan hangs fire", The Irish Times, January 2nd) will be greeted with dismay and anger in the regions. While Liz O'Donnell may refer to decentralisation as "bogman politics", (ironic given the evidence of "bogman politics" within the Dublin planning process), it is an issue to the forefront of voters' minds outside of the Dublin area.
The continued centralisation of Government Departments is effectively a subsidy by the taxpayers of this country to the Dublin economy. Clearly, Dublin no longer requires such a subsidy. - Yours, etc.,
CONOR O'CONNELL,
