Sir, - Anna R. Quinn (August 7th) paints a romantic and idealistic picture of the circus visiting Mayo in days gone by.
I believe the circus will continue to bring magic to children and adults in the future while simultaneously taking into consideration animal welfare.
The ending of animal performances should not mean the end of the circus tradition. Rather it will mean meeting a new and creative challenge to develop a circus based on appropriately trained and talented people rather than the entrapment and exploitation of animals for our entertainment. - Yours, etc.,
Cllr Chris Andrews, Liffey House, Tara Street, Dublin 2.
