Sir, – I'm astonished that Eamon Dunphy has claimed he suggested, at a brunch in the Dublin 4 home of developer Sean Dunne in 2002, to Bertie Ahern, then taoiseach, that the government might "do something" for John Waters who was subsequently appointed to the broadcasting commission (John Waters, Life, October 9th).
One wonders how many more “suggestions”, “do somethings” and subsequent appointments, if any, were made at similar gatherings in Dublin 4 and elsewhere during the Ahern years? – Yours, etc,
