Madam, - Fr Declan Moriarty, in his thoughtful letter of March 24th suggests that all critical care hospitals should be able to offer integrated hospice-quality palliative care to the terminally ill. He writes of patients dying to the full blare of the TV. I fully support his proposal.

However, in the meantime, I would propose that we reclaim our common humanity on such occasions, and just switch the TV off.

By the way, I cannot think of a single person who would object if the ethics committees in our Christian-ethos hospitals engaged themselves with guidelines of this sort.
