Sir, – An ailing Monterey Cypress overlooking Bull Island at the northeast corner of St Anne’s Park was transformed into a wonderful work of art by award-winning tree sculptor Tommy Craggs.
Might I suggest that Dublin City Council consider a similar approach for the dying horse chestnut tree at Appian Way and Upper Leeson Street ("Tree where de Valera had fateful IRB conversation with MacDonagh to be felled", August 12th)?
The double-trunked tree seems to lend itself to a depiction of both MacDonagh and de Valera. – Yours, etc,
