A chara, – The word “earned” seems to have lost its meaning in current discourse in media circles. The dictionary meaning of “deserved something as a reward for actions or behaviour” seems very far off the mark when describing payments given to bankers, Ministers, TDs, senior civil servants and RTÉ “personalities”, in amounts that are usually at least 10 times greater than the average wages paid to the shareholders and hard-working taxpayers from whose tax the payments are extorted.
Perhaps all media commentators could use the words “is paid” or “is given” when referring to these payments in future. – Is mise,
