Sir, - We went on a visit to Arbour Hill around midday on Easter Monday to commemorate and pray for the brave men of Faster 1916 - who gave their lives for our freedom on the 80th anniversary of their Rising. We were much ashamed to find that we were the only people there.
Would this happen in Philadelphia or Washington on July 4th, their independence day; in Paris or Marseilles on Bastille Day etc. etc?
There was a wreath on their graves which said: "For Ever - Patrick Pearse MacManus, Copenhagen". At least there was one other who remembered.
Was Pearse being prophetic when he wrote: "Mor mo nair - a chlann fein a dhiol a mathair"?
