Sir, – In answer to Maeve Kennedy's letter (Letters, November 24th), Maeve, you didn't dream it.
My mother, the late Nuala McLaughlin, was editor of Creation magazine, which was published by the Creation group, along with such titles as Woman's Way and Woman's Choice.
Creation was the first of Ireland's glossy magazines and apart from high fashion and social news, my mother always included something to make readers think. On this occasion, the serialisation of an Edna O Brien book, which I think was The Country Girls. This would have been 1967/8. My mother, in her wisdom, suggested that I read same in order to broaden my outlook on Irish life. Needless to say the nuns at my convent school were not amused!
All a lovely memory of a very interesting woman. A woman before her time.
– Yours, etc,
VALERIE McLAUGHLIN
