Madam, - I find it quite incredible that Educate Together, an organisation that is effectively acting as the patron for 40 national schools in Ireland, is currently receiving a derisory sum of €44,000 in State funding.
Educate Together is the fastest growing educational service provider in this country. Here in Galway, for example, we have one existing national school, another opening in September, another currently in the planning stages and a secondary school waiting for approval from the Department of Education.
The Educate Together philosophy fits well with the direction that Government policy is taking. Therefore it is very difficult to understand why the Government is allowing this huge cash crisis to develop in the organisation.
I appeal to the Minister for Education to take a hands-on approach to this issue and ensure that Educate Together is properly funded on an ongoing basis. - Yours, etc,
Cllr NIALL Ó BROLCHÁIN.
