Madam, - In his piece about Malachy McCourt running for governor of New York, Seán O'Driscoll inaccurately states that Catholic League president Bill Donohue (named in the article as "Donohoe") has asked Catholics to work against Mr McCourt's candidacy (World News, April 20th).

Neither Donohue nor anyone else at the Catholic League has made any such request. As is indicated by the quote from Mr Donohue in Mr O'Driscoll's report, Mr Donohue merely commented on Mr McCourt's history of anti-Catholicism and anti-Americanism. We do not presume to tell any voter, Catholic or otherwise, which candidates he should support or oppose.

- Yours, etc,

KIERA M McCAFFREY, Director of Communications, The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, New York, USA.
