Madam, - The election litter on street poles and blowing about in gardens show the political parties' contempt for the intelligence of the electorate. Sometimes the same mug-shots are displayed hundreds of times on a short stretch of road - with plastic ties still on the poles from the last election.

Sackfuls of leaflets are being shoved through doors - from the the people who say they have concern for our environment and resources. If this is how they spend their money, how will they spend ours? Designated space should be provided (as in other countries) where posters can be displayed without creating eyesores on the streets. - Yours, etc.,

GEORGE WALSH, Sandford Road, Ranelagh, Dublin 6.

I was going to give Eoin Ryan my No. 1 vote anyway, but now I'll be encouraging others to do so as well.

Candidates who doorstepped me, or whose reps left my gates open after them, on the other hand, will not figure on my list at all. - Yours, etc.,

BRENDA O'HANRAHAN, Park Lane, Sandymount, Dublin 4.

Madam, - In its local and European election pamphlets Sinn Féin claims it will defend the rights of the disabled. What immeasurable hypocrisy. For 30 years Sinn Féin's comrades in the broader Republican fraternity, the IRA, maimed, have disabled, paralysed and crippled thousands of people on this and our neighbouring island. - Yours, etc.,
