Madam, - Peter Greene of the Department of the Environment tells us (Febrary 20th) that electronic voting performed satisfactorily in the 2002 election and referendum.
Without an audit trail there is no way of knowing whether the machines recorded and calculated the will of the voters. What standard, then, is Mr Greene applying when he tells us that the performance was satisfactory? - Yours. etc.,
