Sir, – By introducing mandatory hotel quarantine for travellers from the UK immediately we would send a clear signal to the British government that we object to its reckless decision to lift all restrictions there from July 19th.
As Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said: “If things go wrong in England, it will have a spill-over effect in Ireland and on our other neighbours” (News, July 7th).
By taking this course of action for just eight weeks it will enable most of our citizens to be fully vaccinated before the full force of the British government’s decision is felt in this country.
Maybe even some of our European neighbours would follow our example.
This would be a brave and bold move by this Government to show some leadership and protect our citizens.
It is long overdue.
– Yours, etc,
MARY FARRELL,
The Curragh, Co Kildare.
