A chara, - Our national Irish language station, TnaG, is failing to carry out the task that it set out to accomplish. How can a station which was supposedly set up to encourage the appreciation of the Irish language and culture justify showing on average four English-language programmes a day with prime-time viewing often taken up with English language films? TnaG receives Government subsidies to promote the Irish language. If it is not going to show Irish-language programmes at primetime, how can it do this? If TnaG wishes to compete with English language stations and show English-language programmes, it should not proclaim to be encouraging the use of our native tongue and should not receive government subsidies. - Is mise, G. Tracy,
