Madam, - Polish immigration to Ireland has reached unprecedented levels, as attested by Garret FitzGerald (Opinion, October 22nd). Unofficial estimates put the numbers of Polish people living or looking for work in Ireland close to 100,000, well above the official figures.
Many job-seekers have positive experiences of Ireland, but such a movement of people involves new challenges for our society. In the same issue, Drapier refers to political unanimity in the Dáil on the need to plan for integrating migrants.
The Irish Polish Society calls on the Government to put this consensus into action and complement and assist the organisations working in this area. The society has been in existence since 1979 and is the oldest organisation of Irish and Poles making connections between our rich and varied cultures. We work to improve cultural exchange and knowledge and invite all who are interested to attend our events and help bring our two peoples together. - Yours, etc,
PATRICK QUIGLEY, Chairman, Irish Polish Society, Fitzwilliam Place, Dublin 2.
