A chara, – I was delighted to read your new Environment page (Weekend Review, October 31st). It is an interesting and worthwhile initiative about an increasingly important issue, particularly for younger readers. – Is mise,

Sir, – The weekly Environment page in the weekend edition of The Irish Times is most welcome.
It reflects an understanding of the need to think about the celebration and protection of the natural environment in a manner that has largely been missing from the media to date.
We are but one species on a planet occupied by many millions of species of plants and animals, so let’s get real and reconnect with our roots. As a species we have to relearn how to live with nature instead of trying to dominate it. We must understand that human society emerged from, and is entirely reliant for its survival on, the natural environment. The economic systems that dominate our media debates should serve society, not dominate it, and should be open to change for the good of all in our society. – Yours, etc,
