‘Essential’ business trips during a pandemic

Sir, – I refer to your article "Ibec warns hotel quarantine extension could undermine Irish support for single market" (News, April 1st), in which it is claimed that Ibec is angry that the current measures in place are already disrupting "essential" business travel. The notion that Ireland is indeed "closed for business" in the middle of the worst health crisis in a century should not be that hard to countenance. Ibec should have to explain exactly what type of travel could be more important than society as a whole getting through the last stages of the pandemic. There is no business trip more essential than that. It also beggars belief over a year into the pandemic that Danny McCoy does not appear to have heard of Zoom or Microsoft Teams. After so many preventable deaths, we can ill afford to allow this short-termism to continue to dictate health policy. – Yours, etc,
