Sir, – I welcome your report on President Michael D Higgins’s Ethics Initiative national seminar, which I also attended.
His speech was eloquent, intellectual and accessible. I would like to hear more discussion in the media about his ideas for the country such as the notion that we need to have more inclusive values if we want to bring about political and economic change; how we think about the provision of housing, education and food, and the need for new and reconstructed global institutions and laws to respond to realities such as conflict and extremism.
There are few enough leaders we can look to and my sense is that the ideas of President Higgins are not given enough exposure in public discourse. – Yours, etc, GERTRUDE COTTER Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.
