Madam, - I am pleased that both Mary Raftery and Proinsias De Rossa (July 15th) acknowledge that Ireland has a 98.8 per cent rate of transposition of European Union single market legislation into national law.

Ongoing efforts are being made to maintain and improve this performance, which is vital for the good working of the single market and for the consumers and traders of this country.

Transposition of European Union law into national law is a necessary condition for implementation and compliance.

The Government is continuing to work to ensure the best possible record in this area also. - Yours, etc.,
