Sir, – Your Editorial “Building EU firewall” (February 25th) was the best news to emerge from that quarter for some time.
In future all national budgets will have to be agreed at EU level, which will prevent any political party buying the votes of “the plain people” of Ireland, or anywhere else, with giveaway budgets, as Fianna Fáil did, and wrecking the economy.
You quoted socialist MEP Paul Murphy complaining of the erosion of national sovereignty. Since it was national sovereignty that got us to where we are, good riddance to that. – Yours, etc,
