Madam, - As a teacher of classical studies, I was dismayed to see the scant coverage given to this year's Leaving Certificate examination in Exam Times (June 21st).
One small paragraph in an article dominated by an analysis of the day's construction studies paper is not appropriate and extremely disappointing.
While I am aware that the ancient Romans were excellent engineers and architects, I do believe that it is a tragedy worthy of Sophocles to see nine lines out of 53 dedicated to classics.
I would respectfully ask that in future years consideration be given to the many students who sit classical studies and who are just as eager and entitled as those who take construction studies to read a full analysis of their exam in the paper the next day. My only consolation in this saga is the knowledge that in a piece dominated by construction studies, classics was the final paragraph - the foundation stone if you will - just as it is for some many aspects of modern society. - Yours, etc,
