Sir - On page 10 of your edition of June 23rd you report that the Bosnian Serb community has voted to abolish the death penalty "in line with the Dayton peace accords". The accords referred to were signed in Dayton, Ohio in December 1995, some months after United States bombing of Serbian territory brought Milosevic, Tudjman and Izebegovic to the negotiating table.

Am I the only reader to see a grim irony in the fact that, on the same page, you also report the execution of condemned prisoner, Gary Graham, after 19 years in a Texas jail, and after worldwide condemnation and numerous appeals to the US authorities for clemency failed to reverse the sentence? - Yours, etc.,
