Madam, - Frank McNally (An Irishman's Diary, September 27th) mentioned the proposal for a railway line connecting Ireland to Britain and thence to the European mainland. Notwithstanding Ireland's different railway gauge, might proposals for a Bering Straits railway tunnel one day see the epic railway journey of Derry to Kerry being replaced by Cork to New York? - Yours, etc,
EWAN DUFFY, Castletown, Celbridge, Co Kildare.
