Madam, - Looking at the new RTÉ programme You're a Star, I wasreminded of the film They Shoot Horses, Don't They? about dancemarathons with the prospect of winning a money prize. These programmesexploit vulnerable people.
The prospect of making it in the music business is, of course, veryenticing, but it should not be the fodder for mindless entertainment.
Such projects exploit social issues, such as class, gender, and thesexualisation of entertainment. It is not fair to parade people infront of TV cameras on the basis that they can give informed consent.They should not have to face these decisions for our entertainment.
Shame on RTÉ for perpetuating a practice on which I have no doubt wewill look back with horror, some time in the future. - Yours, etc.,
