Madam, - After reading some of your recent correspondents' attacks on An Post I feel compelled to spring to its defence. Since moving to Ireland from Germany in 2000 I have been sending and receiving untold numbers of letters, postcards, parcels, documents. Virtually all of them have been delivered within one to three days.
Earlier this month, several friends in Germany were utterly impressed when I acknowledged receipt of their birthday letters and presents only two days after they were sent.
Incidentally, I'm also immensely grateful to those Irish Rail staff members who most obligingly found the rucksack I had left on a train to Dublin and sent it back to me via return train on December 23rd.
They certainly lifted my Christmas spirits! - Yours, etc.,
