Madam, - Tony Weekes and the Belfast Citizens' Initiative for a Fairtrade City are to be congratulated for their work in achieving Fairtrade status for Belfast (October 19th).
Your readers may be interested to know that, on November 7th, Dublin City Council will be voting on a motion aimed at achieving Fairtrade status for Dublin. The motion has cross-party support and, if passed, will be followed by the establishment of a steering Group to co-ordinate further action.
Thanks to the commitment of their citizens, Belfast, Waterford, Cork, Kilkenny, Clonakilty and Kinsale have all achieved Fairtrade certification. I have no doubt the Dublin campaign will receive similar support. - Yours, etc,
