Famine letters up for sale

Madam, – On May 18th, Irish Famine letters are being put up for sale

Madam, – On May 18th, Irish Famine letters are being put up for sale. These letters were sent to a Dublin land agent who acted on behalf of landlords in the 1840s. The letters describe in detail the desperation of a starving people and why rents were not paid. My Co Mayo great grandparents were lucky enough to survive the Irish Famine. I consider these letters should be donated to the State. They are of huge interest and it’s a new low when letters of this poignancy telling a tale of death, loss and starvation are put up for sale.

I am surely not the only person who believes these letters are of national importance. – Yours, etc,
