Sir, - The thinly veiled threats by the new president of the IFA against the incumbent Government, regarding implementation of European environmental laws, were well reported by your correspondent Denis Coghlan (The Irish Times, January 19th). Could I ask the Opposition leaders where they stand on this issue?

I would ask them, on this occasion, to forget party political advantage and to publicly back the Government in their stand against the farming lobby. They will be thought the more for it in the coming election. - Yours, etc.,
