Sir, - The attitude of the farming organisations (IFA, ICMSA) to the proposed developments in our national road structure is both selfish and disgraceful. What if the rest of the country had adopted this same attitude in their plight over foot and mouth disease last spring/summer. No doubt any delay in road improvements is going to add unnecessary deaths and injuries to our already disastrous figures.
It is time to mark the cards for these farmers. I call on the AA and other motoring organisations to take an acocunt of all road traffic accidents in which a delay in road improvements is implicated. Let these selfish people then be brought to court and sued in an effort to get some compensation for their unfortunate victims. - Yours, etc.,
Dr. M.A. Honan, Portarlington, Co Laois.
