Sir, – I’m not sure why David Carroll (April 26th) thought the gardaí worried overly about safety.
Every time you go down the M1 you’ll see buses and articulated trucks pulling out into the overtaking lane.
On a regular basis these pull straight in front of other traffic, travelling at 100 km/h.
Given that it’s illegal for these vehicles to use the outside lane, I’ve been amazed how regular it is.
That the speed limit for these vehicles is supposed to be 80 km/h is almost always ignored.
I’ve also been amazed to see Garda vehicles nearby apparently ignore what’s going on.
No, the gardaí are after the average motorist for the easiest catch possible.
To be fair, I’m not sure it’s about revenue-raising. I think it’s more about improving statistics. – Yours, etc,
