ADRIAN CARROLL,
Madam, - The Minister for Education wants disadvantaged pupils in fee-paying schools (November 21st).
Reacting to the proposal, Mr George O'Callaghan, general secretary of the fee-paying schools Joint Management Body, said he did not accept that children who did not attend fee-paying schools were in any way disadvantaged.
He further stated: "This idea would do virtually nothing to tackle inequalities in the system". It could also affect the current fee structure, he said.
I am perplexed.
In what way would the admission of non-disadvantaged children from non-fee-paying schools impede the tackling of inequalities in fee-paying schools?
I attended a fee paying school. - Yours, etc.,
ADRIAN CARROLL, Gladstone Street, Clonmel, Co Tipperary.
